Car Key Programming
Dealer-Level Equipment
On Your Driveway
“Aaron programmed two new keys for my Audi on my driveway in Barnsley. Used equipment I have never seen before. Perfect job — both keys work exactly as they should. Half the dealer price.”
Need a car key programmed to your vehicle’s immobiliser? Aaron uses the Autel IM508, Smart Pro, Xhorse VVDI2 and ACDP — the same professional tools as main dealer technicians — to code keys on your driveway across South Yorkshire, Wakefield and Pontefract. No VAT. No call-out fee.
Key programming codes a new key’s transponder chip to your vehicle’s immobiliser ECU. Without this step, a physically cut key will not start the engine — even if the blade fits perfectly. Aaron carries four specialist systems covering virtually every make on UK roads, including encrypted modules most locksmiths decline.
Includes ECU coding, chip verification and functional testing. No VAT. No call-out fee. Price confirmed before Aaron sets off.
Tell Aaron your make, model and what programming is needed — price in 60 seconds.
07513664346What Car Key Programming Actually Involves
Car key programming — also called transponder coding, key coding or immobiliser programming — registers a key’s electronic chip to a vehicle’s Engine Control Unit (ECU). Without this step, a blade that fits the ignition perfectly will still not start the engine.
Modern vehicles use an immobiliser system that communicates with a transponder coil inside the key head. When inserted, the coil energises the chip which broadcasts a unique encrypted code. The ECU compares this code against its authorised key list. A match allows the engine to start; no match means no ignition — even if the blade turns freely.
This is why a key cut at a high street kiosk without programming will turn in the ignition but not start the car. Programming writes the new chip’s identity into the ECU’s authorised key memory — a process requiring specialist equipment connected to the vehicle’s OBD port, or in complex cases, direct bench access to the module.
Key programming is also a component of Aaron’s other services — lost car keys, replacement keys and spare keys all include programming as part of the job. This page covers programming as a standalone service — for example, when a key blade has been cut elsewhere but needs coding.
Classic symptom: Key turns in ignition but engine won’t start. This almost always means the transponder chip is not recognised by the immobiliser — either unprogrammed, failed, or the ECU has lost its key memory. Aaron diagnoses and resolves this on site.
Four Systems. Almost Every Vehicle Covered.
Most mobile locksmiths carry one basic programmer. Aaron carries four — each chosen because different makes and different situations require different tools. Here’s exactly what each system does and which vehicles it covers.

Transponder coding, IMMO bypass, PIN extraction and all-keys-lost across mainstream UK makes. Primary tool for Ford, Vauxhall, Peugeot, Toyota, Kia and most Japanese and Korean makes.

Specialist for BMW CAS/CAS4 modules, Mercedes EIS/ESL systems and Land Rover/Jaguar KVM programming. The only mobile tool covering the full range of BMW key types including CAS4+ and FEM/BDC.

PIN extraction and transponder generation for the full VW group without needing a working key. Also covers Honda, Toyota, Mitsubishi, Subaru and others. Used for flip key and remote fob generation.

Required for BCM2 bench work on Audi, CAS module programming on BMW where OBD route is unavailable, and van BCM2 systems. Works directly with module hardware — the definitive solution for encrypted immobilisers.
Why four tools matter: No single programmer covers every vehicle. A locksmith with one tool will decline jobs Aaron can complete. When you call, Aaron identifies your vehicle’s immobiliser system and selects the correct programming method — OBD, bench, PIN extraction or EEPROM — before setting off. See the About page for full equipment details and Recent Jobs for documented examples.
Documented Job: Audi A5 BCM2 Bench Programming, Rotherham
This is a genuine completed job — documented with the real vehicle, location, equipment and outcome. BCM2 encrypted programming is one of the most technically demanding key programming jobs and one that most locksmiths decline.
The Audi A5 uses a BCM2 (Body Control Module 2) with encryption that blocks standard OBD programming. This is the job most locksmiths decline because they don’t carry bench programming equipment. Aaron used the ACDP to work directly on the BCM2 module, bypassing the OBD restriction and programming a new key to the vehicle’s immobiliser. The same job at an Audi dealer: £600+ plus VAT, towing required, days of waiting.
Key Programming for All Major Makes
Aaron covers 34 makes for key programming — including chip type identification, correct programming method selection and full immobiliser verification. Chip types, blade profiles and module names are listed for each make so you know exactly what’s involved before calling.
Also covering Honda, Hyundai, SEAT, Skoda, Volvo, Jaguar, Fiat, Mitsubishi, Suzuki and more. Only Tesla is not currently covered.
