Audi Key Replacement South Yorkshire

Mobile Audi Auto Locksmith
A-Series, Q-Series & TT — HU66 & ID48 Crypto

Audi is one of the most common premium marques across South Yorkshire — the A3, A4 and Q5 are consistently among the best-selling models in the region. Aaron programmes Audi keys on site using the Xhorse Key Tool Plus, Xhorse VVDI2 and ACDP — covering the full range from older A4 B6/B7 models through to current A3, Q5 and Q7 models. He has a real, documented Audi A5 all-keys-lost job on this page.

All current Audi models use the HU66 laser-cut blade — a precision-cut profile that requires specialist cutting equipment. The transponder system is where Audi gets complex: ID48 crypto (Megamos Crypto 48) is used on most post-2003 Audis, and this chip cannot be cloned or programmed using standard OBD tools. Aaron uses the Xhorse VVDI2 — one of the few tools with a validated ID48 crypto solution — for all-keys-lost without the original key.

For newer Audi models (post-2016 A4 B9, Q5 FY, Q7 4M onwards) using the BCM2 (Body Control Module 2), an all-keys-lost situation requires ACDP bench-level access to the BCM2 directly. This is the same challenge as BMW CAS4 — encryption that defeats OBD-only tools. Aaron carries the ACDP specifically for these jobs.

Audi ID48 Crypto Guide

Audi Transponder Systems Explained — ID48, BCM2 & Crypto

The ID48 Megamos Crypto transponder is Audi’s primary immobiliser chip from 2001 onwards — and it’s the reason why Audi all-keys-lost is more complex than most brands. Standard OBD tools cannot programme an ID48 encrypted chip without an existing working key. Aaron uses the Xhorse VVDI2, one of the few validated tools with a full ID48 Megamos Crypto solution.

Transponder / SystemAudi EraProgramming Notes
PCF7935 / ID40Audi pre-2001Older basic transponder. Cloneable. Straightforward programming.
PCF7936 / ID48 (standard)Audi 2001–2009Standard ID48. VVDI2 can read and code without original. Common on A3 8P, A4 B6/B7, A6 C6.
PCF7936 / Megamos Crypto 48Audi 2009–2016Encrypted ID48. Requires VVDI2 with validated crypto solution. Cannot be cloned. Common on A3 8V, A4 B8, Q5 8R.
BCM2 (Body Control Module 2)Audi 2016+New BCM2 replaces standalone immobiliser. Requires ACDP bench access for all-keys-lost. A4 B9, Q5 FY, Q7 4M, A6 C8.
MQB platformAudi 2012+MQB A3, Q2 and newer Audi group models. OBD programming possible with VVDI2 if spare key present.

Key point: If your Audi uses Megamos Crypto 48 (2009–2016) or BCM2 (2016+) and all keys are lost, you need either a VVDI2-equipped locksmith or ACDP bench access. Aaron carries both. This is why the Audi A5 on this page could be resolved on site when other locksmiths said it wasn’t possible.

The Situation

A customer in Rotherham lost all keys to their Audi A5 B8. No spare. Vehicle fully immobilised. The Audi A5 B8 uses the HU66 laser blade and encrypted ID48 Megamos Crypto 48 transponder — two other locksmiths had already told the customer this couldn’t be done without taking the car to an Audi dealer. The Audi dealer had quoted over £600 plus VAT.

What Aaron Did

Aaron attended in Rotherham and used the Xhorse Key Tool Plus to extract the ID48 Megamos Crypto data and programme a new HU66 key directly to the Audi’s immobiliser — no module removal, no dealer, no tow truck. The vehicle was operational on the same visit. Significantly less than the Audi dealer’s quote. No VAT.

Common Audi Key Problems

Audi Key Faults Aaron Fixes On Site

The most frequent Audi key faults Aaron attends across South Yorkshire. Call 07513664346 — Aaron identifies your transponder type and confirms the resolution before setting off.

Audi A3 / A4 all keys lost — ID48 crypto

The A3 8P, 8V and A4 B7, B8 use ID48 Megamos Crypto 48. Other locksmiths often say this can’t be done without the original key — Aaron uses the VVDI2 crypto solution to programme a new key on site. The documented A5 job on this page is the same system.

Audi Q5 / Q7 BCM2 all keys lost

Post-2016 Q5 (FY) and Q7 (4M) use the BCM2 module. All-keys-lost requires ACDP bench-level access. Aaron carries the ACDP for exactly these jobs — the BCM2 cannot be programmed without it.

Audi flip key remote not working

Audi flip keys fail due to flat CR2025/CR2032 batteries, worn lock buttons or cracked cases. Aaron diagnoses on site from £20 — a new battery is minutes, a full flip key replacement is coded in under an hour.

Audi A6 / A8 proximity key fault

Higher-spec Audi models use proximity comfort key systems. When the key desyncs or the fob battery dies, Aaron re-pairs or replaces it on site. For A6 C8 and A8 D5 (BCM2 platform), ACDP is used if all keys are lost.

Audi TT / R8 all keys lost

TT and R8 use HU66 with ID48 crypto — same system as the mainstream A-series. Aaron covers TT Mk2 (8J) and Mk3 (8S), and can programme R8 keys on site without dealer involvement.

Audi key blade broken or HU66 worn

HU66 laser blades are precision-cut — a worn or snapped blade will turn the barrel without firing the immobiliser. Aaron cuts a new HU66 blade to the original Audi key profile on site and codes it to the transponder.

Audi Programming Equipment

Professional Equipment for Audi Key Programming

Audi ID48 Megamos Crypto programming without the original key requires the Xhorse VVDI2 — one of only a handful of tools with a validated, authorised solution for the ID48 crypto algorithm. Most standard automotive diagnostic tools cannot extract Megamos Crypto data. This is why other locksmiths often turn Audi all-keys-lost jobs away.

For BCM2-equipped Audis (A4 B9, Q5 FY, Q7 4M, A6 C8 from 2016+), the Body Control Module 2 requires ACDP bench-level communication — OBD alone cannot programme a new key when all keys are lost. Aaron carries the ACDP specifically for these models.

The Xhorse Key Tool Plus handles HU66 blade cutting and is used alongside the VVDI2 for combined cut-and-code operations on site. The Autel IM508 handles key-present programming on Audis where a working spare key exists.

Xhorse VVDI2

Primary Audi ID48 crypto tool. Validated solution for Megamos Crypto 48 all-keys-lost without original. Essential for A3, A4, A5, A6, Q5 and TT Megamos jobs. The documented A5 job used the Key Tool Plus for the crypto sequence.

Xhorse Key Tool Plus

HU66 laser blade cutting and transponder coding. Used alongside VVDI2 for Audi all-keys-lost operations. The tool used in the documented Audi A5 Rotherham job.

ACDP

Bench-level BCM2 access for post-2016 Audi models. A4 B9, Q5 FY, Q7 4M, A6 C8. Required when OBD access alone cannot reach the BCM2 for all-keys-lost.

Autel IM508

Used for Audi key-present programming — adding a spare to an A3, A4 or Q5 when a working key is available. Faster and simpler than VVDI2 when the original key is present.

FAQs

Audi Auto Locksmith — Frequently Asked Questions

Lost Audi key from £200 (ID48 standard), £240 (Megamos Crypto 48) or £280 (BCM2). Spare key from £120. No VAT. No call-out fee. Exact price confirmed before Aaron sets off.
Yes — this is the documented Audi A5 job on this page. Aaron uses the Xhorse VVDI2, which has a validated ID48 Megamos Crypto 48 solution. Standard OBD tools and most non-specialist locksmiths cannot do this. Aaron programmes the new HU66 key directly without the original present.
ID48 standard (pre-2009 Audis) is an earlier version of the chip that can be accessed more straightforwardly. Megamos Crypto 48 (2009 onwards) adds a cryptographic layer that requires specialist equipment to read without the original key. Both use the HU66 blade — the difference is in the chip, not the blade.
Yes — Aaron carries the ACDP for BCM2 bench-level access. Post-2016 Audi BCM2 all-keys-lost cannot be resolved with OBD alone — the ACDP communicates directly with the BCM2 module. See the key programming service for full details.
Yes — Q3, Q5 and Q7 are covered. Q5 8R uses Megamos Crypto 48 (VVDI2). Q5 FY (2016+) and Q7 4M (2015+) use BCM2 (ACDP). Aaron covers all Q-series models and confirms your exact transponder system before travelling.
Yes — the Audi A5 B8 Rotherham job is a genuine completed job with a real photograph. The customer had been told by two other locksmiths it wasn't possible without going to Audi. Aaron resolved it on site using the Xhorse Key Tool Plus for the ID48 Megamos Crypto sequence. No tow truck, no dealer, no VAT.
Yes. No VAT is a 20% saving automatically, and there is no call-out fee. An Audi Megamos Crypto 48 all-keys-lost that a dealer might quote £500–£900 plus VAT starts from £240 with Aaron. He comes to your location across South Yorkshire.
Aaron covers A1 through A8, Q2, Q3, Q5, Q7, Q8, TT (both Mk2 and Mk3) and R8. Both ID48 standard and Megamos Crypto 48 via VVDI2, and BCM2 via ACDP. Central to all South Yorkshire areas — 25–40 minutes to Barnsley, Rotherham, Sheffield, Doncaster, Wakefield and Pontefract.
